About this filter

Desperados III is a real-time tactics game from Mimimi Games, set in a gritty Wild West where outlaws, bounty hunters, and frontier towns trade some pointed language. Its English script leans into that rough-edged Western tone, and the spoken voice lines carry it further than the subtitles alone suggest. This filter is for players who want to enjoy the tactical campaign, the characters, and the story without the strong language in the dialogue. That includes parents setting up the game for younger players, streamers who need a cleaner broadcast, and anyone who simply prefers to play without the swearing. It is built only for the English text and English voice lines that ship with the game you already own, and it now lets you choose exactly how much of that language gets filtered.

The filter works on two surfaces at once. On the text side, it edits 1,283 English subtitle lines: every flagged word is replaced in place with same-length asterisks, so sentence structure, punctuation, fonts, and on-screen layout stay exactly as Mimimi designed them. On the audio side, it silences the profane word in 1,218 English voice lines, covering 1,329 muted spans in total — only the flagged word goes quiet while the rest of the line and the actor's delivery play normally, and every clip keeps its exact original length. Both in-mission barks and pre-rendered cutscene voice lines are covered. This release widens the coverage of exclamatory religious oaths while leaving reverent, non-cursing religious language untouched, and it works identically no matter which Money for the Vultures DLC episodes you own. You also get to pick which categories apply — Strong, Medium, Mild, and Religious Oaths — so you can dial the filter to exactly the amount of language you're comfortable with.

The text edits are applied by a deterministic script that backs up the original file first, replaces only the flagged words, and preserves the file's exact byte length. The voice lines are processed by transcribing each clip with speech recognition for word-level timing, muting only the flagged span, and re-encoding each clip back into its original slot. This release's word-level audio coverage came from a fresh full-corpus, multi-model re-scan, and the category-selection feature was verified with a real apply-and-restore pass against the game's own files on both Windows and Steam Deck before it shipped. Nothing else is touched: the story, mission design, voice performances, music, and gameplay are exactly as shipped, non-English text and audio are left alone because the filter is English-only, and your saves, achievements, and UI layout are unchanged. The filter runs against your own copy of the game and ships none of its content.

A native macOS (Apple Silicon) build joined the Windows and Steam Deck editions in August 2026, applying the exact same filter to the Mac's own build of the game rather than a copy of the Windows files. The macOS app was proven against every filter-strength combination before release, matching the same byte-for-byte, repeatable-output bar already met on Windows and Steam Deck.

What Was Changed

  • 1,283 English subtitle lines: each flagged word is replaced in place with same-length asterisks, so sentence structure, punctuation, fonts, and UI layout are unchanged.
  • 1,218 English voice lines with the profane word silenced (1,329 muted spans): only the flagged word goes quiet while the rest of the line and the performance play normally. In-mission barks and pre-rendered cutscene tracks are both covered. Each clip keeps its exact original length.
  • A wider set of religious-oath exclamations is now filtered as profanity alongside the existing categories. Reverent, non-cursing religious language is left uncensored.
  • Choose which categories to filter: Strong, Medium, Mild, and Religious Oaths, in any combination. All four are selected by default, matching the full filter described above.
  • Works identically no matter which Money for the Vultures DLC episodes you own: their voice lines live in the same base English files this patch edits, not a separate DLC file.

What Was NOT Changed

Non-English text and audio (German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Korean, Polish, Japanese, Chinese) are left alone — the filter is English-only. The story, voice performances, music, and gameplay are exactly as Mimimi Games shipped them — only the flagged English words change. Saves, achievements, and UI layout are not modified.
