About this filter

Call of Duty: WWII follows a U.S. infantry squad through the European theatre, and its campaign leans hard into the raw language of frontline soldiers. The voice-over carries a steady stream of strong profanity and the occasional blasphemy used as an expletive, woven through cinematics, mission dialogue, and the bark-and-callout chatter of combat. For a great many players that intensity is part of the appeal, but plenty of people want the same campaign with the swearing taken down a notch: streamers and content creators working under platform rules, parents sharing a war story with an older kid, and players who simply prefer their games without the hard language. This filter is for them. It runs only against the English voice-over and leaves every other language exactly as the game shipped it.

The filter works entirely on the spoken audio. Across 36 voice paks it silences 1,268 mute windows spread over 1,209 English voice clips, removing only the flagged word while the rest of each line plays through untouched. It targets three categories: strong profanity, blasphemy used as an expletive, and phonetic near-miss variants that an exact-spelling list would miss. Each clip is re-encoded to the game's original IW-FLAC format at its exact original length, so a muted line keeps its timing, its pauses, and the performance around the censored word. On-screen text, subtitles, and menus are outside the scope of this version; the work here is purely the voice track.

The mod was built with an offline, deterministic pipeline — voice clips are decoded, the flagged spans are muted, and the audio is re-encoded with the reference libFLAC encoder so the game's own decoder accepts it cleanly. Nothing is generated by AI at install time and nothing contacts the internet. The result was checked by re-scanning the edited audio for any remaining flagged words and confirmed in-game by reaching live mission playback with the patch active, hearing word-level silence with the surrounding speech intact and no crashes. Everything else is left alone: the story, the voice performances, the music, the gameplay, all non-English audio, and your saves, achievements, and progression. The patch runs against your own legally-owned copy, backs up your original files automatically before it writes anything, and is fully reversible from the same app or by verifying the game files through Steam.

What Was Changed

  • 1,209 English voice clips: only the flagged word is silenced while the rest of the line and the performance stay intact. Voice is re-encoded to the game's original IW-FLAC format at the same clip length, so timing is unchanged.
  • 1,268 mute windows across 36 voice paks (English and root voice-over families) — covering strong profanity, blasphemy used as an expletive, and phonetic near-miss variants.
  • Clip length, sentence structure, and gameplay are all preserved — no audio drift.

What Was NOT Changed

The story, voice performances, music, and gameplay are exactly as Sledgehammer Games shipped them — only the flagged English words change. On-screen text, subtitles, and menus are left as-is (text is not in scope for this version), non-English audio is untouched, and saves, achievements, and progression are not modified.
